Summary: The U.S. Mission in Uganda is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Lead Carpenter.
The work schedule for this position is:
- Full Time, 40 hours per week
Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time following receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.
Supervisory Position: Yes
Duties: Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, this position is responsible for creating, developing, and repairing wood works at the Chancery as well as other locations as necessary. Incumbent supervises a staff of six carpenters to ensure that make-ready residences are completed on time and all aspects of the carpentry shop are maintained in a safe and clean environment.

Qualifications and Evaluations
EDUCATION: Completion of secondary school (O and A level) is required.
Requirements:
EXPERIENCE: Three years of journeyman carpentry experience is required; an additional two years of progressive responsibility in managing journeyman carpenters is required.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: Must have a good technical understanding of carpentry and woodworking systems and equipment. Knowledge of U.S. building, trade, construction, fire and safety codes and standards is required.
Evaluations:
LANGUAGE: Level III (good working knowledge) writing/speaking/reading English is required. (This may be tested)
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: (This may be tested.)
Must be able to use all tools of the trade; must be able to use Microsoft Office Suites; must have a valid driver’s license. Lifting techniques; and basic keyboard skills is required.
Qualifications: All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security certifications.

The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service.
