50 Ugandan businessmen and women to attend a U.S. trade show

On Monday March 3, 2014, Ambassador Scott DeLisi hosted a pre-departure reception for over fifty Ugandan businessmen and women who will be travelling to Chicago to attend the International Home and Housewares Show in March 2014.

The group is the largest Ugandan delegation to attend a U.S. trade show.

The International Home and Housewares Show is one of 26 trade shows certified by the U.S. Department of Commerce through the International Buyer’s Program–a joint effort between the U.S. government and industrial partners that brings thousands of international buyers to the United States for business-to-business matchmaking with U.S. firms exhibiting at major industry trade shows.

In his remarks, the Ambassador voiced the importance of trade shows in strengthening the U.S. and Uganda economic ties. “We hope that through the International Home and Housewares Show and other upcoming trade shows, we’re able to strengthen the economic and commercial ties between Uganda and the U.S.  We see U.S. companies taking an increased interest in Uganda, realizing the vast potential this country offer, with its incredibly rich agricultural sector, its numerous opportunities in the energy sector, and its potential to become a world-class tourist destination.”

The Ugandan delegation will meet with several U.S. business officials and representatives from the Department of Commerce and visit factories in the Chicago area.
