Summary: The U.S. Mission in Uganda is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Auto Mechanic.

The work schedule for this position is:

  • Full Time, 45 hours per week

Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time following receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Supervisory Position: No

Duties: Serves as a Maintenance Mechanic in General Services Office / Motor pool (GSO). Maintain and repair State and CDC Government owned vehicles. Observe the safe and reliable operation of all motor vehicles regarding proper service and repair.

Qualifications and Evaluations

EDUCATION:  Completion of secondary school is required. In addition to completion of one year of vocational training or apprenticeship recognized as producing journeyman mechanic skills or equivalent experience is required.


EXPERIENCE:  One year of automotive mechanic experience is required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE: Must have full journeyman mechanic knowledge of established practices and procedures in the specific trade involved. A good working knowledge of USG regulations as it pertains to official vehicle preventative maintenance and repair. Knowledge of commercial and local market costs for parts and supplies, local dealerships and maintenance facilities for specialized auto servicing and repairs.


LANGUAGE:  English level II (Limited) Reading/Writing/Speaking is required. (This may be tested)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: (This may be tested.)

Must be able to use all tools of the trade. lifts moderately heavy objects – up to 40 lbs.

Qualifications:  All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security certifications.
