On April 21-22, 2015, U.S. Mission Uganda and the American Chamber of Commerce partnered with Stanbic Bank, Airtel, Delta, Jubilee Insurance, New Vision, Mukwano, and others to hold the Generation Agripreneur Summit and Expo.
Under the theme “Shaping the Next 25 Years of Agribusiness in Uganda with US Partnerships”, the summit featured exhibitors and speakers from both the United States and Uganda, showcasing new technology in agricultural inputs, global standards in enhancing the quality of production and processing, the latest in transportation and infrastructure services, and financial services for agribusiness.
Speaking during the Agripreneur Summit and Expo, U.S. Ambassador Scott DeLisi noted that “Although agriculture remains the economic backbone of the Ugandan economy, Ugandan youth do not think of agriculture as an economic option or, when they do, they think their family’s small plots of land are not worth working, and they are convinced they will be better off selling their land, buying a boda boda and going to the city. They’re wrong. That’s not a future. It is just a dead-end on wheels…”
The Expo was closed by the Prime Minister of Uganda Honorable Ruhakana Rugunda.
