We are pleased to announce that the application period for the 2023 Mandela Washington Fellowship, the flagship program of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), launched on Tuesday, August 16, 2022.
The Mandela Washington Fellowship offers an unparalleled opportunity to:
- Participate in a six-week Leadership Institute at a U.S. college or university to share your experiences with and to learn from U.S. citizensand other Fellows.

Eligibility Criteria: The Mandela Washington Fellowship is open to young African leaders between the ages of 25 and 35 on before the application submission, although exceptional applicants ages 21-24 will be considered. Applicants should not be U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the United States. And most importantly for you, they should not be employees or immediate family members of employees of the U.S. Government (including a U.S. embassy or consulate, USAID, or other U.S. Government entity).
