On Thursday, July 2, the U.S. Mission in Uganda joined Americans around the world in observing Independence Day, our nation’s most important holiday.
In his speech at the Embassy’s official celebration, Ambassador Scott H. DeLisi said “We want Uganda to succeed. We know that a peaceful, prosperous, healthy and democratic Uganda is in our best national interest. That is why we invest over 750 million dollars each year in Uganda’s future in sectors from health to agriculture, to security and governance. That is why we fund eighty percent of the overall HIV response as well as anti-retro viral treatment for over 700,000 Ugandans. That is why we are the second largest employer in the country, directly supporting the jobs of over 17,000 Ugandans. That is why we support the development of every political party in Uganda – the NRM, FDC, UPC – all of them.”
The guest of honor was Hon. Oryem Henry Okello, the Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs.
