U.S. Mission Uganda Welcomes Applications for the 2022 Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders
Kampala – The U.S. Mission in Uganda is pleased to announce the application process for the 2022 Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) – Mandela Washington Fellowship. We seek to identify and select a diverse, inclusive group of up to 24 eligible Ugandans between the ages of 25 and 35 who have a demonstrated record of leadership and accomplishment in business or civic engagement. We strongly encourage Ugandans from outside the Kampala metropolitan region to apply for the program. Visit https://mwfellows.info/apply for more information, details on eligibility and selection criteria, and to begin the application process. The application period will close on September 15, 2021.
Since its launch in 2014, the YALI Mandela Washington Fellowship has empowered over 150 young Ugandans through academic coursework, leadership training, and networking. Each year, the fellowship provides up to 700 outstanding young leaders from Sub-Saharan Africa with the opportunity to hone their skills at a U.S. higher education institution and supports their professional development after they return home. Fellows participate in six-week Leadership Institutes focused on skills development in one of three tracks: business, civic engagement, or public management. Upon completion, Fellows continue to build the skills they developed during Leadership Institutes through support from the U.S. Mission in Uganda and the YALI Network. Fellows have access to ongoing professional development opportunities, mentorship, networking, and training as well as the opportunity to compete for seed funding to support their ideas, businesses, and organizations.
Additional information about the Young African Leaders Initiative is available at yali.state.gov.
