Asylee and Refugee Follow-to-Join

Processing Instructions

Your case will be processed in accordance with federal regulations defined by the United States Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). Please refer to the instructions below to initiate your case processing in Kampala. Please also note the following:

  • Interviews are conducted on Thursday afternoons. Current wait times for interviews are 4-5 months. You must send us an email at KampalaV92-93@state.gov to schedule your interview and receive further instructions.
  • On average, we process cases within one year, but have many cases that may take two years or longer. Some processing stages are completed by organizations in the U.S. and are not under the control of the U.S. Embassy. Each stage is critical to your case and cannot be expedited or bypassed.
  • If you do not speak fluent English, you MUST bring an interpreter with you to the U.S. Embassy for your interview. We will NOT provide a translator.
  • All case inquiries must be submitted by email at KampalaV92-93@state.gov. Do not come to the Embassy in person to check on the status of your case as you will not be granted access for this purpose. Also, please do not submit duplicate or repetitive e-mail inquiries as we will only respond once.
More information will be made available during your interview. We appreciate your assistance in helping us to efficiently process your case as quickly as possible.
