Malaria is the leading cause of illness and death in Uganda.Through the President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI), the U.S. Government is committed to eradicating malaria and has contributed more than $200 million to malaria programs since 2006.
PMI is making successful contributions to end malaria in Uganda through four key interventions: indoor residual spraying; insecticide-treated nets; intermittent preventive treatment for pregnant women; and diagnosis of malaria and treatment with artemisinin-based combination therapy. Building upon the progress to date in Uganda, PMI is working towards reducing malaria mortality by one-third from 2015 levels.
